Quarry in Your Community – Act Now

Philip Harris wants to turn the peaceful community of Elihu Cabin Hollow Road into a rock quarry. The state of Kentucky has given us until July 1st to make our voices heard.

Email cassie.mahoney@ky.gov by July 1st and tell the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet to deny this Quarry.

Tell KEEC to deny this Quarry on the grounds of:

Disruption of Natural Underground Streams: Quarrying in limestone aquifers can interfere with groundwater flow paths. This could have a negative impact on the community, environment, and may require disruptive dewatering measures.

Air Pollution: Rock quarries can create invisible dust particles proven to cause silicosis—a progressive, incurable lung disease. Long-term exposure is strongly associated with heart disease, stroke, infertility, and pregnancy complications.

Property: This quarry could have considerable adverse effects on the community’s quality of life due to noise, decreased property value, and foundation impact.

Wildlife: Altering large areas of land can lead to the loss of wildlife habitat, disrupting local ecosystems and displacing wildlife populations.

Roads: Elihu Cabin Hollow Road is not capable of handling both heavy truck traffic and residential traffic. Residents may have to live in constant fear of collision with large, heavy vehicles.

Help your neighbors stand up to irrational, destructive, and greedy quarrying activities. Tell KEEC to deny this poorly thought-out permit.

We all deserve to live safe, healthy lives.
